Los Diablos's attentive Edgar Vital managed to snatch the ball when Silvério Matos made a throw-in in the 24th minute of the game. 29 minutes into the match, Sporting's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Andrade came free, but Joaquim Santarém reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joaquim Santarém showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Inácio Rangel, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. 31 minutes into the match, Sporting's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Andrade came free, but Joaquim Santarém reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Alberto Andrade came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Los Diablos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Andrade couldn't finish the play. 43 minutes into the match, Los Diablos's goalkeeper Viriato Varela had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Aldo Pires. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The supporters of Los Diablos booed when Sporting was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ilídio Toscano didn't get a good kick on the ball. Joaquim Santarém had great luck who in the 54thth minute grab hold of the ball when Alberto Andrade from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. A collision led to Los Diablos getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Rúben Trigueiro hit a great ball. In the 59th minute, Aldo Pires ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Viriato Varela was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. When Alberto Andrade came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Los Diablos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Andrade couldn't finish the play. If Inácio Rangel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 65th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting's goalkeeper Joaquim Santarém, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Inácio Rangel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Joaquim Santarém tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match clock showed 71 minutes, the score became 2-2 when Alberto Andrade sped through Sporting's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Joaquim Santarém. In the 76th minute, Alberto Andrade got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Inácio Rangel took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joaquim Santarém. Joaquim Santarém dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-3. In the 84th match minute, Sporting was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aldo Pires to maneuver through the defense. Alberto Andrade fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquim Santarém having to interfere. In the 87th minute, Inácio Rangel got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Filipe Eanes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Inácio Rangel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alberto Andrade sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Inácio Rangel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Los Diablos's supporters rose to their feet, but Inácio Rangel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joaquim Santarém breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Los Diablos played a much better game than Sporting and deserved their victory. The Sporting players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
