But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manuel Lisboa couldn't finish the play. In the 9th minute Delfim Coelho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but António Ávila saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 13 played minutes Sport Clube Largo de Rato got a freekick which was hit by João Pegado. The António Ávila was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 24th minute of the game. One of Sport Clube Largo de Rato:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Pousas:s goal. Sandro Moreira walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Manuel Lisboa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. António Ávila tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When João Pegado fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sport Clube Largo de Rato's protests and gave João Pegado a yellow card for diving instead. The Pousas fans' excitement grew in the 34th match minute when Pousas's Delfim Coelho looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Manuel Lisboa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rafael Veiga kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. Sport Clube Largo de Rato's António Ávila played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Delfim Coelho in the 48th minute of play. After the first half Pousas were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

João Pegado was shown his second yellow card after 51 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. António Ávila showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Delfim Coelho, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. Pousas's Delfim Coelho was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 58th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. In the 62nd minute, Sport Clube Largo de Rato's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Manuel Lisboa fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Manuel Lisboa struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. António Ávila didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pousas. After 65 minutes, Antero Varanda mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sport Clube Largo de Rato and the Pousas players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Sport Clube Largo de Rato's Antero Varanda got a free kick in the 67th minute. António Ávila made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Delfim Coelho in the 70th minute of play. Delfim Coelho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Delfim Coelho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute.
