Horácio Zarco was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a defensive mix-up in Mei FC's zone, Sven Vennerdal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Horácio Zarco came out of the goal and Sven Vennerdal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sven Vennerdal struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Horácio Zarco didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for F.C. dos Mortos. In the 39th minute, Severiano Arruda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. F.C. dos Mortos's Jorge Guarda got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. F.C. dos Mortos's Markus Schoel suffered a concussion in the 46th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. Mariano Quental's late challenge caught a F.C. dos Mortos's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mariano Quental helped the player get up and apologised. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Sven Vennerdal managed to get in a good position for a shot. F.C. dos Mortos's supporters rose to their feet, but Sven Vennerdal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sven Vennerdal couldn't finish the play. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 65th minute, Hermano Aveiro left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mei FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. With an all-out effort, F.C. dos Mortos's Horácio Zarco threw himself towards the right post 69 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Celestino Roman, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Horácio Zarco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sven Vennerdal, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Celestino Roman kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Horácio Zarco. That made the score 1-2 in the 81 minute of play. If Jorge Guarda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sven Vennerdal in the 97th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Horácio Zarco saved Mei FC from getting behind. F.C. dos Mortos's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
