The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute of the match, Pedro Mota got a very nice opportunity to score, but Bento Teixeira was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Thanks to some nice moves Pedro Mota could shoot a difficult shot in the 7th minute, which Bento Teixeira however easily saved by the left post. If Afonso Moniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Pedro Mota came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Garvao fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pedro Mota couldn't finish the play. António Roriz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 17th minute, António Roriz left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SC Piedade fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. With 22 minutes on the clock, Rui Cunha commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 22nd minute of the game. One of Garvao:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of SC Piedade:s goal. Garvao's Filipe Baptista played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rui Mourão in the 31st minute of play. In the 36th minute Afonso Moniz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bento Teixeira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Pedro Mota had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Afonso Moniz kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by António Roriz during the 44th minute. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Geraldo Melo was the one to do the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Filipe Quirino got free with Filipe Baptista in the 96th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. SC Piedade's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
