After some fancy dribbling in the 7th minute, Hélio Bessa managed to get in a good position for a shot. J. D. Meinedo's supporters rose to their feet, but Hélio Bessa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Normando Amaro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 10 minutes, Hélio Bessa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. J. D. Meinedo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hélio Bessa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 11 played minutes SC Recardais got a freekick which was hit by Viriato Campos. Hélio Bessa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Normando Amaro having to make a save. A collision led to SC Recardais getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Viriato Campos hit a great ball. Basílio Gentil hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Hélio Bessa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Normando Amaro having to interfere. Miguel Barata took the ball and in the 30 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jerónimo Carvalhais. Jerónimo Carvalhais dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Jerónimo Carvalhais took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Miguel Barata, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. J. D. Meinedo's Jerónimo Carvalhais played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Miguel Barata in the 42nd minute of play. When Basílio Gentil fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Recardais's protests and gave Basílio Gentil a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, SC Recardais's Basílio Gentil got a free kick in the 44th minute. Jerónimo Carvalhais made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Basílio Gentil in the 47th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Miguel Barata to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 56th minute Hélio Bessa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Normando Amaro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 58 played minutes J. D. Meinedo got a freekick which was hit by Vivaldo Rebocho. The audience thought a goal was coming when Miguel Barata got free with Jerónimo Carvalhais in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hélio Bessa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Hélio Bessa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Normando Amaro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 75th minute of play. If Miguel Barata had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 86thth minute of the game Basílio Gentil who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but J. D. Meinedo's Jerónimo Carvalhais was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Miguel Barata came free with the goalkeeper in the 97th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Jerónimo Carvalhais could save by the left post. The J. D. Meinedo manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing SC Recardais to win.
