Romae FC's Francisco Vargas got a good chance for a goal in the 5th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Mariano Aguiar didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Sidónio Carmo went, in the 9th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Francisco Vargas in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Joaquim Mafra saved Athletic do Além from getting behind. If Vicente Vilarinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 40 minutes in the game, Sidónio Carmo fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Mariano Aguiar having to interfere. Romae FC's Mariano Aguiar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Santiago Osório in the 42nd minute of play. After 47 played minutes Athletic do Além got a freekick which was hit by Amadeu Graça. In the 49th minute, Francisco Vargas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Vicente Vilarinho in the 57th minute of play forced Athletic do Além's goalkeeper Joaquim Mafra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 63rd match minute, Romae FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricardo Ribeiro to maneuver through the defense. Santiago Osório received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Mariano Aguiar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 68 minutes into the game, Athletic do Além's Santiago Osório nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mariano Aguiar made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Mariano Aguiar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Santiago Osório, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Santiago Osório sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Egídio Peralta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mariano Aguiar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Santiago Osório in the 89th minute of play. Santiago Osório received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Mariano Aguiar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Romae FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
