When Os Piratinhas's Quintino Saraiva in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After a defensive mix-up in Benfica's zone, Quintino Saraiva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rui Vieira came out of the goal and Quintino Saraiva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Os Piratinhas getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Rúben Caetano hit a great ball. In the 47th minute Domingos Graça shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Vieira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for José Jesus to strike the kick off in the second half. After having played for 57 minutes, José Jesus managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. In the 95th minute, Os Piratinhas's Domingos Graça ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Rui Vieira. Rui Vieira yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Although Benfica had been in control for most of the match, Os Piratinhas still came away with the win.
