The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Real Madrid Castilla. Gustavo Gonçalves had in the 20thth minute some difficulties stopping Pedro Carmo's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Gustavo Gonçalves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Saúl Gaspar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gustavo Gonçalves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Renato Leme in the 22nd minute of play. 23 minutes into the game, Jacinto Torres was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Real Madrid Castilla's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Canove FC the free kick. Jacinto Torres kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Canove FC's zone, Cristiano Tavares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mário Moutinho came out of the goal and Cristiano Tavares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Mariano Barbosa came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Real Madrid Castilla fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mariano Barbosa couldn't finish the play. Saúl Gaspar took the ball and in the 31 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gustavo Gonçalves. Gustavo Gonçalves dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ademar Portela in the 34th minute of play forced Real Madrid Castilla's goalkeeper Gustavo Gonçalves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpected shot in the 42nd minute by Cristiano Tavares got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Saúl Gaspar in the 44th minute of play forced Real Madrid Castilla's goalkeeper Gustavo Gonçalves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half Canove FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Saúl Gaspar was the one to do the kick off. Jacinto Alcântara could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 56th minute of the match, but Gustavo Gonçalves made a huge save. In the 62nd minute of the match, Jacinto Alcântara got a very nice opportunity to score, but Gustavo Gonçalves was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Real Madrid Castilla's Gustavo Gonçalves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Saúl Gaspar in the 63rd minute of play. After 64 played minutes Real Madrid Castilla got a freekick which was hit by Fábio Freitas. Gustavo Gonçalves acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 65th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Pedro Carmo. Real Madrid Castilla's Mariano Barbosa got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Canove FC's Domingos Benevides got a free kick in the 72nd minute. Mariano Barbosa didn't quite understand what happened when in the 74 minute of the game managed to get a great opportunity for a goal and then missed the goal by a feet. The supporters of Canove FC booed when Real Madrid Castilla was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Maia didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mário Moutinho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mariano Barbosa, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Saúl Gaspar in the 87th minute of play forced Real Madrid Castilla's goalkeeper Gustavo Gonçalves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mariano Barbosa took the ball and in the 89 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mário Moutinho. Mário Moutinho dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Real Madrid Castilla lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
