Jaime Leiria showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Plácido Caldeira, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Plácido Caldeira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jaime Leiria having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 25 minutes, Filipe Castanheira successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. The supporters of Ortigueira booed when Estrumil was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Caetano Cunha didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 33 played minutes Estrumil got a freekick which was hit by Moisés Camacho. Hélio Gusmão was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 34th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After the first half Ortigueira were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The audience was convinced that Rui Pimenta's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Filipe Castanheira was relentless in the 53rd minute of the game. Sidónio Mourão received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute.
