Patrício Vilanova took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hugo Araújo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hugo Araújo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Patrício Vilanova tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Humberto Correia showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Caetano Ramires in the 29th minute of the match. Armando Vieira charged in rather forcefully in the 32nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Armando Vieira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Noeda FC's Alfredo Brás got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Hugo Araújo came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Noeda FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hugo Araújo couldn't finish the play. Hugo Araújo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Patrício Vilanova having to interfere. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Patrício Vilanova played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hugo Araújo in the 45th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Hugo Araújo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Sport Lisboa e Benfica booed when Noeda FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Armando Vieira didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 56 minutes of play, Noeda FC's Hugo Araújo made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Patrício Vilanova was left in no man's land by his defense there! Oliveira Pacheco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Noeda FC's Alfredo Brás got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Hugo Araújo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 74 minutes into the match, Noeda FC's goalkeeper Humberto Correia had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vicente Poças. After 83 minutes of play, Noeda FC's Hugo Araújo made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Patrício Vilanova was left in no man's land by his defense there! After having played for 87 minutes, Caetano Ramires managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Caetano Ramires was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Caetano Ramires struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Humberto Correia didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal.
