The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Abílio Fiúza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Geraldo Bragança tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Abílio Fiúza got free with Geraldo Bragança in the 5th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Abílio Fiúza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Canhardo's Geraldo Bragança proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Canhardo from getting a goal against them. 17 minutes into the match, Canhardo's goalkeeper Geraldo Bragança had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Abílio Fiúza. Through an outstanding action, after 20 minutes, Geraldo Bragança successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Flávio Bento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Geraldo Bragança tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Geraldo Bragança showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Flávio Bento, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Vasco Palha charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vasco Palha the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Abílio Fiúza came free with the goalkeeper in the 34th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Geraldo Bragança could save by the left post. Canhardo's Geraldo Bragança played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Flávio Bento in the 37th minute of play. 39 minutes into the game, Ricardo Macena was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Canhardo's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave F.C. do Velhote the free kick. After 38 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Canhardo! In the 41st minute there was a penalty for F.C. do Velhote. Gastão Esparteiro stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Geraldo Bragança. 1-0. Flávio Bento struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Geraldo Bragança didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for F.C. do Velhote. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Abílio Fiúza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 57th minute Flávio Bento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geraldo Bragança saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 59 minutes, Abílio Fiúza managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. F.C. do Velhote's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abílio Fiúza was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. F.C. do Velhote's Abílio Fiúza got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valério Azeredo in the 78th minute of play forced Canhardo's goalkeeper Geraldo Bragança to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 85 minutes, Flávio Bento managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. F.C. do Velhote walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
