Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lúcio Quintanilha to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Sport Clube Benfica's João Castro got a free kick in the 51st minute. Rogério Pinto hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Desportivo Seixo do Côa's Jorge Lopes in the 71st minute got a chance for a shot 71st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The supporters of Desportivo Seixo do Côa booed when Sport Clube Benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Carlos Melo during the 80th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Júlio Barbosa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lúcio Quintanilha in the 99th minute of play. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
