Gregório Lemos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Assunção, who was totally free with the ball in the 4th minute. If José Assunção had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 9 minutes into the match, Afonso Ribeiro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gregório Lemos. Fiães F.C's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Afonso Ribeiro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. José Assunção sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Afonso Ribeiro struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Gregório Lemos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sport Lisboa e Benfica. If Afonso Ribeiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jacinto Soares was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Cândido lago. Telmo Garcia hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jorge Cardoso during the 40th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Fiães F.C booed when Sport Lisboa e Benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Cardoso didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 41st minute of the match Hélder Taborda sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jacinto Soares skillfully saved the ball. Amílcar Malta could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Jacinto Soares made a huge save. Jacinto Soares was a little too slow when Rodrigo Tinoco got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 44th minute. The score was now 2-1.

The wind increased when Hilário Freitas made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Danilo Valadão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacinto Soares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jacinto Soares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Amílcar Malta in the 55th minute of play. José Assunção received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Gregório Lemos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Afonso Ribeiro came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Sport Lisboa e Benfica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Afonso Ribeiro couldn't finish the play. 62 minutes into the match, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goal looked a bit too open when Amílcar Malta came free, but Jacinto Soares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. José Assunção's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 68thth minute, Gregório Lemos skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. When José Assunção came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Sport Lisboa e Benfica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Assunção couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, Fiães F.C's Gregório Lemos got control of the ball when José Assunção tried to sneak it across the goal line. The throw-in from Renato Igrejas in the 77th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Inácio Reis. With his leg Gregório Lemos managed to avoid a goal in the 79thth minute, when Sport Lisboa e Benfica's José Assunção fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 80th match minute, Fiães F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Danilo Valadão to maneuver through the defense. José Assunção sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. José Assunção received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Gregório Lemos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Fiães F.C had won, even though Sport Lisboa e Benfica had held more of the ball.
