Maia's supporters rose to their feet, but Jorge Fernandes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jorge Boaventura breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jorge Fernandes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Jorge Boaventura tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 12th minute of the match Zarco Peralta sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Higinio Fiz skillfully saved the ball. Jorge Fernandes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorge Boaventura having to interfere. Daniel Ribeiro scored 1-1 in the 18th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jorge Boaventura, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. F.C. Maia's Jorge Fernandes got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Armando Pinto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Jorge Boaventura tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Higinio Fiz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nicolau Travassos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jorge Boaventura showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tiago Sousa, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. A collision led to Gimonde FC getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Leonel Sacramento hit a great ball. In the 44th minute, F.C. Maia's Amílcar Miranda seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Amílcar Miranda the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of F.C. Maia protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Amílcar Miranda had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nicolau Travassos to make the kick off. Jorge Fernandes might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jorge Boaventura. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out.
