Fábio Amaro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Raul Magalhães having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in SC Meruge's zone, Zarco Raposo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Raul Magalhães came out of the goal and Zarco Raposo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. SC Meruge's Raul Magalhães proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save SC Meruge from getting a goal against them. Rubim Graça fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Durval Setúbal having to interfere. After 23 played minutes SLB RIO DE ONOR got a freekick which was hit by Joaquim Serpa. Raul Magalhães made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zarco Raposo in the 26th minute. The supporters of SLB RIO DE ONOR booed when SC Meruge was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Lessa didn't get a good kick on the ball. SLB RIO DE ONOR's Fábio Amaro got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 30th match minute, SC Meruge was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maurício Lencastre to maneuver through the defense. Raul Magalhães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fábio Amaro, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Raul Magalhães made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fábio Amaro in the 35th minute of play. When Fábio Amaro came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the SLB RIO DE ONOR fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fábio Amaro couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rubim Graça in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Durval Setúbal prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Zarco Raposo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fábio Amaro received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Raul Magalhães came out and tried to block the shot, but Fábio Amaro slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 45th minute.

In the 52nd minute Fábio Amaro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Raul Magalhães saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 53 minutes into the match, SC Meruge's goal looked a bit too open when Fábio Amaro came free, but Raul Magalhães reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. SC Meruge's Bento Quadros got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rubim Graça received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Durval Setúbal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
