SC Mariz's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ivo Salgado was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After a defensive mix-up in SC Mariz's zone, Sidónio Mendonça stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Afonso Montenegro came out of the goal and Sidónio Mendonça tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Miguel Sabrosa got free with Virgílio Medeiros in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 30 minutes into the match, SC Valondrina's Hermenegildo Garcia sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Afonso Montenegro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 33 played minutes SC Mariz got a freekick which was hit by Miguel Sabrosa. After having played for 35 minutes, Ivo Salgado managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Valondrina's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ivo Salgado was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With his leg Virgílio Medeiros managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when SC Mariz's Miguel Sabrosa fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Hermenegildo Garcia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Afonso Montenegro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 46 minutes, Donato Lages mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SC Mariz and the SC Valondrina players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 46th minute of the game. One of SC Mariz:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of SC Valondrina:s goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

A collision led to SC Mariz getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Albérico Caires hit a great ball. Hermenegildo Garcia struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Afonso Montenegro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Valondrina. When Ivo Salgado fell near the penalty area in the 70th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Valondrina's protests and gave Ivo Salgado a yellow card for diving instead. Afonso Montenegro made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Ivo Salgado sent off a good shot on target. Virgílio Medeiros took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Miguel Sabrosa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 82nd minute, Torcato Regueira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Miguel Sabrosa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hermenegildo Garcias short, quick shot in the 98thth minute got Afonso Montenegro to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The SC Mariz supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching SC Valondrina's performance. The match ended with a win for SC Valondrina.
