In the 13th minute Filinto Simões suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. After 13 minutes, Cândido Soveral mouthed his way into the referee's book. After recieving a nice pass, Barbershop Joãorui's Herberto Bacelar tried to score from far away in the 31st minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Hilário Chagas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pascoal Barros having to interfere. After 45 minutes of play Fintinhas's Cândido Soveral was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Cândido Soveral hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Fintinhas's Aldo Leitão got a free kick in the 47th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The referee ignored Barbershop Joãorui's protests and gave Hilário Chagas a yellow card for diving instead. Fintinhas's Aldo Leitão got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alípio Miguéis struck a weak shot in the 65th minute.
