SC Calvo's defense didn't have a chance, in the 13th minute, when Laureano Malta scored to the left of an out of position Nuno Almeida, making the score, 2-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Angelo Brás during the 15th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of SC Calvo booed when Sporting FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angelo Brás didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Serafim Fagundes in the 20th minute of play forced Sporting FC's goalkeeper Israel Lustosa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 22nd minute Serafim Fagundes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Israel Lustosa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Serafim Fagundes in the 24th minute of play forced Sporting FC's goalkeeper Israel Lustosa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in SC Calvo's zone, Virgílio Baía stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nuno Almeida came out of the goal and Virgílio Baía tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nuno Almeida made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Saúl Seixas in the 36th minute of play. After a rather tough play, SC Calvo's Paulo Santos got a free kick in the 38th minute. 39 minutes into the game, Amável Neves was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sporting FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Calvo the free kick. Amável Neves kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. Israel Lustosa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Vilas Boas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Israel Lustosa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Vilas Boas, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

Israel Lustosa came out of the goal in the 52nd minute to try and stop a shot by SC Calvo's Paulo Santos. But to his dismay, Paulo Santos quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. Nuno Almeida showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Silvério Junqueira in the 55th minute of the match. 56 minutes into the game, Álvaro Lameiras was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SC Calvo's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sporting FC the free kick. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 56th minute of the game. One of SC Calvo:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Sporting FC:s goal. André Moita's late challenge caught a SC Calvo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. André Moita helped the player get up and apologised. After having played for 64 minutes, Virgílio Baía managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Virgílio Baía was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Carlos Vilas Boas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Israel Lustosa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Sporting FC's Israel Lustosa got control of the ball when Serafim Fagundes tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Sporting FC getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Silvério Junqueira hit a great ball. 79 minutes into the game, SC Calvo's Serafim Fagundes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Israel Lustosa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-3. In the 82nd minute, Laureano Malta ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nuno Almeida was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-3. The audience thought a goal was coming when Serafim Fagundes got free with Israel Lustosa in the 85th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Vilas Boas in the 86th minute of play forced Sporting FC's goalkeeper Israel Lustosa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Israel Lustosa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Serafim Fagundes in the 89th minute. The audience was convinced that Virgílio Baía's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nuno Almeida was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. In the 93rd minute Carlos Vilas Boas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Israel Lustosa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
