After 4 minutes of play, Sporting FC's Laureano Malta made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Caio Quintela was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 7th minute Severino Pádua shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Israel Lustosa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 10 minutes into the match, Sporting FC's goalkeeper Israel Lustosa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Simão Bezerra. Israel Lustosa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Severino Pádua, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 14 minutes, Saúl Seixas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting FC and the Guarda FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Sporting FC's Saúl Seixas got a free kick in the 14th minute. If Virgílio Baía had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Sporting FC's Laureano Malta in the 19th minute got a chance for a shot 19th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Israel Lustosa was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Lucas Mendes showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-2 in the 43 minute of play. 46 minutes into the game, Amável Neves was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sporting FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Guarda FC the free kick. Amável Neves kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. After the first half Sporting FC were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Laureano Malta made the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Guarda FC's zone, André Moita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Caio Quintela came out of the goal and André Moita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Guarda FC's Cândido Ornelas got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Virgílio Baía could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Caio Quintela made a huge save. Caio Quintela was out of position in the 53 minute of play, and Virgílio Baía capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Virgílio Baía really showed his touch with that goal: 1-3. Israel Lustosa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severino Pádua in the 57th minute of play. Virgílio Baía scored 2-4 in the 63rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Caio Quintela, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 66 played minutes Sporting FC got a freekick which was hit by Danilo Magalhães. After a rather tough play, Guarda FC's Eusébio Barroso got a free kick in the 69th minute. In the game's 70th minute Sporting FC's Laureano Malta took a hard shot from long distance, a kick which went into the net just to the right of Caio Quintela and thus the score was 2-5. In the 77th minute, Lucas Mendes made a precise shot to the right of Israel Lustosa. Sporting FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-5. With a little luck, Guarda FC's Caio Quintela got control of the ball when Virgílio Baía tried to sneak it across the goal line. Simão Bezerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Israel Lustosa having to interfere. After some careless play in the Sporting FC defense, Simão Bezerra kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Israel Lustosa. The Sporting FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Israel Lustosa should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Simão Bezerra in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Israel Lustosa saved Sporting FC from getting behind. The Sporting FC players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
