After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Duarte Gouveia managed to get in a good position for a shot. Portugal Gold Academy's supporters rose to their feet, but Duarte Gouveia was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lucílio Baía breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Duarte Gouveia in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lucílio Baía prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Sport Terceira e Benfica booed when Portugal Gold Academy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sabino Santiago didn't get a good kick on the ball. A hard shot by Honorato Campos from long distance, 17 minutes into the match, got Mauro Vilaverde's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 18th minute, Tomás Barros hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Duarte Gouveia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lucílio Baía having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Duarte Gouveia in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lucílio Baía saved Sport Terceira e Benfica from getting behind. In the 26th minute the ball was on its way in behind Portugal Gold Academy's goalkeeper Mauro Vilaverde, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Samuel Marinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Mauro Vilaverde tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Duarte Gouveia in the 32nd minute of play forced Sport Terceira e Benfica's goalkeeper Lucílio Baía to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 34 minutes into the match, Sport Terceira e Benfica's goal looked a bit too open when Viriato Pestana came free, but Lucílio Baía reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Fernando Faria was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 41 minutes had been played. Samuel Marinho might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mauro Vilaverde. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Samuel Marinho ran back to his position shaking his head. Viriato Pestana sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Sport Terceira e Benfica's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Honorato Campos in the 80th minute. 81 minutes into the match, Sport Terceira e Benfica's goal looked a bit too open when Viriato Pestana came free, but Lucílio Baía reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Samuel Marinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mauro Vilaverde having to interfere. In the 89th minute, Portugal Gold Academy's Sabino Santiago ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Lucílio Baía. Lucílio Baía yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-1. Viriato Pestana blasted a shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lucílio Baía having to make a save. When Duarte Gouveia came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Portugal Gold Academy fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Duarte Gouveia couldn't finish the play. Portugal Gold Academy's Viriato Pestana got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
