Palmiro Madruga came out of the goal and Gaspar Linhares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aveiro FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Amado Macena was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Palmiro Madruga breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Amado Macena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 42nd minute Igor Quintanilha suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. After 42 minutes, Fernando Rijo mouthed his way into the referee's book. Palmiro Madruga took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvano Simões, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
