After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Patrício Sequeira managed to get in a good position for a shot. SC Varzim's supporters rose to their feet, but Patrício Sequeira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Durval Gameiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 21st match minute, UD Malha-Vacas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ramiro Resende to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that Hélder Gaspar's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Durval Gameiro was relentless in the 24th minute of the game. Durval Gameiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patrício Sequeira in the 32nd minute of play. If Patrício Sequeira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Patrício Sequeira might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Durval Gameiro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Patrício Sequeira ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patrício Sequeira in the 44th minute of play forced UD Malha-Vacas's goalkeeper Durval Gameiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half SC Varzim were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Unai Coya's late challenge caught a UD Malha-Vacas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Unai Coya helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of UD Malha-Vacas booed when SC Varzim was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Unai Coya didn't get a good kick on the ball. Patrício Sequeira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Durval Gameiro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Varzim. Mário Marques fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Radowit Wielgopolski having to interfere. Patrício Sequeira was extremely unlucky when he, in the 94th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. SC Varzim's Patrício Sequeira got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the match was over SC Varzim could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than UD Malha-Vacas throughout the match.
