The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 5 played minutes, Royal Legends Academy's Nkeiruka Asokuh shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Iheanacho Onobo came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Royal Legends Academy reached it. In the 8th minute of the match Duada Ezukanma shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Yussuf Bodams showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Iheanacho Onobo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Otutodilichukwu Iwuchukwu in the 11th minute of play. Iheanacho Onobo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jibunoh Shuaibu in the 16th minute of play. Mbadiwe Ajunwa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Yussuf Bodams tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Diamond fc's Iheanacho Onobo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Otutodilichukwu Iwuchukwu in the 31st minute of play. If Jibunoh Shuaibu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Royal Legends Academy's Otutodilichukwu Iwuchukwu got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 42nd minute Otutodilichukwu Iwuchukwu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iheanacho Onobo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Otutodilichukwu Iwuchukwu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Iheanacho Onobo having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Osinachi Ewuga to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Jibunoh Shuaibu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Royal Legends Academy's supporters rose to their feet, but Jibunoh Shuaibu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Iheanacho Onobo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Diamond fc were furious when Okoyomon Charles Adegbayi was red carded, 56 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 56th minute, one of Diamond fc:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Diamond fc. Jibunoh Shuaibu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Iheanacho Onobo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 76th minute of the match Kunle Uzoezie shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Iheanacho Onobo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jibunoh Shuaibu in the 83rd minute of play forced Diamond fc's goalkeeper Iheanacho Onobo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Iheanacho Onobo didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 87th minute, which inside left pole to 0-3. Otutodilichukwu Iwuchukwu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 92nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 93rd minute of the match, Jibunoh Shuaibu tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Iheanacho Onobo saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Otutodilichukwu Iwuchukwu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Diamond fc booed when Royal Legends Academy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Effiong Utaka didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Diamond fc fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Royal Legends Academy were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
