Obiuto Fajemirokun's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but William Ayoola read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. In the 17th minute Abazu Abaku shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iyke Otite saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 27 minutes into the match, Ramsey United's goalkeeper Iyke Otite had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fola Arowolo. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fola Arowolo got free with Iyke Otite in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ramsey United's Iyke Otite proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 34th minute of the match, managed to save Ramsey United from getting a goal against them. Fola Arowolo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 42 minutes into the game, Zereokwu Udem was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ramsey United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Marcellus FC the free kick. Ramsey United's Iyke Otite proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Ramsey United from getting a goal against them. Musa Achima fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without William Ayoola having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Abazu Abaku to make the kick off. In the 51st minute the ball was on its way in behind Marcellus FC's goalkeeper William Ayoola, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 52nd match minute, Marcellus FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abazu Abaku to maneuver through the defense. William Ayoola showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Musa Achima, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. William Ayoola took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Obiuto Fajemirokun, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. William Ayoola showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Musa Achima in the 59th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Abazu Abaku in the 72nd minute of play forced Ramsey United's goalkeeper Iyke Otite to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 78 minutes, Cletus Cletus Afolayan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ramsey United and the Marcellus FC players grew even worse after the yellow card.
