Welford's Vance Golding got a good chance for a goal in the 3rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With his leg Frankie Whittaker managed to avoid a goal in the 5thth minute, when Welford's Vance Golding fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Dave Giugno took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joshua Washington , even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alan Garlick in the 10th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dave Giugno saved Welford from getting behind. Dave Giugno showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joshua Washington , who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. Welford's Vance Golding got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 20 minutes into the match, Welford's goal looked a bit too open when Alan Garlick came free, but Dave Giugno reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Reuben Dawson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frankie Whittaker having to interfere. When Stu Morcom fell near the penalty area in the 26th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Derry Hill's protests and gave Stu Morcom a yellow card for diving instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Vance Golding got free with Frankie Whittaker in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Reuben Dawson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Brian Dwyer was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 40 minutes into the match. 39 minutes into the game, one of Welford:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 42nd minute there was a penalty for Derry Hill. Paul Colley stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Dave Giugno . 0-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joshua Washington to strike the kick off in the second half. Derry Hill's Joshua Washington got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Joshua Washington in the 54th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dave Giugno saved Welford from getting behind. 57 minutes had been played when some careless play by Welford's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Paul Colley was slow to take the kick. During this time Derry Hill's players had a chance to rest. Jason Beckett tried in the game's 58th match minute to clear up in front of his own goal but it went so bad that he put the ball into the goal to the left of an unhappy Dave Giugno . An annoying self made goal, 0-2. Dave Giugno took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joshua Washington , even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Frankie Whittaker made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vance Golding in the 65th minute of play. Vance Golding struck a weak shot in the 68th minute. Frankie Whittaker didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Welford. Vance Golding received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Frankie Whittaker tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 76th match minute, Derry Hill was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dean Routledge to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Vance Golding managed to get in a good position for a shot. Welford's supporters rose to their feet, but Vance Golding was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Frankie Whittaker breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 83 minutes, Luke Makem mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Welford and the Derry Hill players grew even worse after the yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Welford fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 82nd minute. Penalty! The referee gave Derry Hill a penalty, 84 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Paul Colley , who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Welford's Dave Giugno . 0-3. If Alan Garlick had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The Welford supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Derry Hill's performance. The match ended with a win for Derry Hill.
