In the 19th minute of the match, Alexander Rice tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Garth Edwards saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When Kenny McParland fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Deptford's protests and gave Kenny McParland a yellow card for diving instead. Dave Giugno made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tod Preston in the 23rd minute of play. Tod Preston received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Dave Giugno tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tod Preston in the 31st minute of play forced Welford's goalkeeper Dave Giugno to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 38th minute, Lloyd Spink hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Reuben Dawson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Vance Golding had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kieran Tully to make the kick off. In the 56th minute Vance Golding shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Garth Edwards saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Reuben Dawson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Garth Edwards tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Welford's Dave Giugno proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to save Welford from getting a goal against them. Through an outstanding action, after 71 minutes, Dave Giugno successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. If Reuben Dawson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dave Giugno took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kieran Tully , even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet as Deptford's Kieran Tully slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Dave Giugno . That made the score 1-1 after 90 minutes of play. After a defensive mix-up in Welford's zone, Kieran Tully stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dave Giugno came out of the goal and Kieran Tully tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
