Seating: 1841, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Reuben Dawson took the kick off in the first half of the match. 4 minutes into the match, Vance Golding notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Bedford's Jacob Clapham . Jacob Clapham was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Reuben Dawson in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jacob Clapham prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience thought a goal was coming when Brian Close got free with Dave Giugno in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Vance Golding fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacob Clapham having to interfere. 19 minutes into the match, Bedford's goal looked a bit too open when Reuben Dawson came free, but Jacob Clapham reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Vance Golding came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Welford fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vance Golding couldn't finish the play. 28 minutes into the match, Bedford's goal looked a bit too open when Vance Golding came free, but Jacob Clapham reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Greg Flintoff charged in rather forcefully in the 32nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Greg Flintoff the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Welford's Greg Flintoff got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Eddy Carlick received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Dave Giugno tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jacob Clapham took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vance Golding , even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Reuben Dawson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacob Clapham having to interfere. After the first half Welford were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Eddy Carlick stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Bedford's Jacob Clapham played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reuben Dawson in the 57th minute of play. When Vance Golding came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Welford fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vance Golding couldn't finish the play. In the 60th match minute, Welford was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Brian Dwyer to maneuver through the defense. Brian Close struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Dave Giugno didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bedford. After 71 minutes, Eddy Carlick mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Bedford and the Welford players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 71st minute, Eddy Carlick hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Reuben Dawson blasted a shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jacob Clapham having to make a save. 82 minutes into the game, Jools Clarkson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Bedford's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Welford the free kick. A collision led to Bedford getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Jools Clarkson hit a great ball. The supporters of Welford booed when Bedford was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jools Clarkson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vance Golding could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 93rd minute of the match, but Jacob Clapham made a huge save. The Bedford supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Welford's performance. The match ended with a win for Welford.
