Spectators: 6862 (Terracing: 5000,
Seating: 1862, VIP seats: 0) Trevor Berryman made the kick off and thus started the match. Trevor Berryman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 3rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a rather tough play, Stockbridge FC's Norman Lightbody got a free kick in the 4th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Neil Warden managed to get in a good position for a shot. Witney United's supporters rose to their feet, but Neil Warden was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. John-Paul Finlay breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 8 minutes of play, Stockbridge FC's Glenn Hatcher made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Norman Mumford was left in no man's land by his defense there! Stockbridge FC's John-Paul Finlay played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alistair Tyrell in the 13th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Stockbridge FC's Alf Blair got a free kick in the 17th minute. 21 minutes into the game, Alistair Tyrell cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. John-Paul Finlay was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Witney United's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Alf Blair 25 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 3-1. After having played for 28 minutes, Trevor Berryman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Witney United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Trevor Berryman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alistair Tyrell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without John-Paul Finlay having to interfere. Alf Blair fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Norman Mumford having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
After 52 played minutes Witney United's Alistair Tyrell stole the ball from his opponents and shot the ball towards the upper left corner, but John-Paul Finlay stretched himself as far as he could, and stopped the ball from passing the line. robbing Stockbridge FC of the goal. John-Paul Finlay made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Alistair Tyrell sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Stockbridge FC defense, Trevor Berryman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of John-Paul Finlay. The Stockbridge FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that John-Paul Finlay should have stopped the shot. In the 70th minute, Lucas Hurst hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. John-Paul Finlay made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alistair Tyrell in the 79th minute. Glenn Hatcher received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Norman Mumford tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
