In the 24th minute, Geoff Finlay ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Zak Davison was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Marty Downs showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kasey Reading in the 27th minute of the match. Zak Davison was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. A collision led to Goole getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Chesney Houghton hit a great ball. When Kasey Reading came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Leyland fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kasey Reading couldn't finish the play. James Higgins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zak Davison having to interfere. Geoff Finlay received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Zak Davison tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 54th match minute, Leyland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carl Attenborough to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Leyland's zone, Geoff Finlay stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zak Davison came out of the goal and Geoff Finlay tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marty Downs took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfie Clarke , even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Geoff Finlay recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Geoff Finlay had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Leyland's Alfie Clarke got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Marty Downs took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kasey Reading , even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 72nd minute, Ray Cowling ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Zak Davison was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Goole's Marty Downs played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfie Clarke in the 79th minute of play. James Higgins who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 80thth minute tested the skills of Zak Davison when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The supporters of Goole booed when Leyland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bob Ash didn't get a good kick on the ball. 85 minutes into the match, Leyland's goal looked a bit too open when Geoff Finlay came free, but Zak Davison reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Leyland's Chris Taylor got a free kick in the 88th minute. Zak Davison made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Geoff Finlay in the 90th minute of play. Alfie Clarke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Kasey Reading had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alfie Clarke struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Marty Downs didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Leyland. Goole's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
