Jonathon Peters recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Blair Bingham made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Al Marshall in the 22nd minute of play. In the 25th minute, Jimmy Dlyan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 29 minutes into the game, Jimmy Dlyan recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Russell Pamplin . Jimmy Dlyan showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. When Russell Baum fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored North Shields's protests and gave Russell Baum a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in North Shields fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 38th minute. Penalty! A collision led to North Shields getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Francis Swain hit a great ball. Jonathon Peters sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The crowd rose to their feet as Al Marshall kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Blair Bingham. That made the score 2-2 in the 64 minute of play.
