After 11 played minutes Matlock FC got a freekick which was hit by Jacob Hargreaves . Lewis Bennet made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alistair Jenas in the 13th minute. Bob Lawson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lennie Law having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Dersingham United's Willie Dowie slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Lewis Bennet . That made the score 1-1 after 18 minutes of play. Dersingham United's Alistair Jenas got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 28th match minute, Dersingham United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Willie Dowie to maneuver through the defense. Ronny Paine hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Andrew Lima fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lennie Law having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Willie Dowie stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Lewis Bennet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alistair Jenas , even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 54 minutes into the match, Dersingham United's goalkeeper Lennie Law had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bob Lawson . After 58 minutes, Andrew Lima mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Matlock FC and the Dersingham United players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Matlock FC's Andrew Lima got a free kick in the 58th minute. Matlock FC's Lewis Bennet played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alistair Jenas in the 61st minute of play. The supporters of Matlock FC booed when Dersingham United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carl Pryor didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bob Lawson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Lennie Law tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 74 minutes, Ronny Paine managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Matlock FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ronny Paine was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 76thth minute of the game Ronny Paine who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Dersingham United's Lennie Law was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Dersingham United's Lennie Law played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronny Paine in the 81st minute of play. If Ronny Paine had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Willie Dowie's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lewis Bennet read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. Lennie Law took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronny Paine , even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 94th minute, Mitch Lofthouse hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Dersingham United's Dale Cousens got a free kick in the 96th minute. Andy Graydon was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 97th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Dersingham United were victorious despite being under pressure from Matlock FC for much of the match.
