Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Andrew Colt to make the kick off. When James Stewart fell near the penalty area in the 56th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Nailsea's protests and gave James Stewart a yellow card for diving instead. Nailsea's supporters crossed their fingers, but Neil Power was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Sandown defense, Neil Power kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rick Short . The Sandown fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rick Short should have stopped the shot. Andrew Colt struck a weak shot in the 68th minute. Todd Waller didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sandown.
