A collision led to Paris Saint-Germain getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Gerry Cornforth hit a great ball. Crispin Gordon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Derek Greenfield, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. Gerry Cornforth's late challenge caught a Avebury AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gerry Cornforth helped the player get up and apologised. In the 11th match minute, Paris Saint-Germain was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gerry Cornforth to maneuver through the defense. In the 12th minute of the match Jack Clegg shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gerry Mabbutt showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Jack Clegg fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Avebury AFC's protests and gave Jack Clegg a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 19th minute of the game. One of Avebury AFC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Paris Saint-Germain:s goal. Crispin Gordon went to the wrong direction when Rich Shea was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. If Silvester Beadle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After having played for 26 minutes, Derek Greenfield managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paris Saint-Germain's supporters crossed their fingers, but Derek Greenfield was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Derek Greenfield came up free with the goalie in the 30th minute, the Paris Saint-Germain fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Derek Greenfield couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Paris Saint-Germain's zone, Silvester Beadle stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gerry Mabbutt came out of the goal and Silvester Beadle tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If John Bateman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gerry Cornforth kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. After having played for 47 minutes, Rich Shea managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paris Saint-Germain's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rich Shea was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and John Bateman made a kick off. Seth Hunt might have been able to make a better finish in the 54th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Crispin Gordon. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Seth Hunt ran back to his position shaking his head. 54 minutes into the match, Paris Saint-Germain's Derek Greenfield sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Crispin Gordon narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 55th minute, Elisha Fenwick hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 64 minutes into the match, Paris Saint-Germain's goal looked a bit too open when Elisha Fenwick came free, but Gerry Mabbutt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gerry Mabbutt didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Elisha Fenwick went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. When the match had gone on for 67 minutes, Seth Hunt took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Crispin Gordon to make any attempt to save it. Crispin Gordon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Derek Greenfield in the 72nd minute of play. The supporters of Paris Saint-Germain booed when Avebury AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elisha Fenwick didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 79th minute of the match, Seth Hunt got a very nice opportunity to score, but Crispin Gordon was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Crispin Gordon stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Derek Greenfield's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. With a little luck, Avebury AFC's Crispin Gordon got control of the ball when Seth Hunt tried to sneak it across the goal line. Derek Greenfield received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Crispin Gordon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Avebury AFC's Crispin Gordon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Derek Greenfield in the 97th minute of play.
