In the 13th minute Francis Coton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jay Price saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Joey Savage made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tod Godsall in the 16th minute. Tod Godsall received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Joey Savage tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tod Godsall who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 25thth minute tested the skills of Joey Savage when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Joey Savage showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kenny Edgson , who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Tod Godsall s short, quick shot in the 29thth minute got Joey Savage to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Tod Godsall who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 35thth minute tested the skills of Joey Savage when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 35 played minutes Wrea Green got a freekick which was hit by John Spink. Kenny Edgson hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Rodney Irvine sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 38th minute, Francis Coton ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jay Price was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. After having played for 44 minutes, Rodney Irvine managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Wrea Green's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rodney Irvine was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a little luck, Wrea Green's Joey Savage got control of the ball when Tod Godsall tried to sneak it across the goal line. After the first half Wrea Green were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Kenny Edgson was the one to do the kick off. Joey Savage showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kenny Edgson in the 54th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tod Godsall in the 61st minute of play forced Wrea Green's goalkeeper Joey Savage to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Francis Coton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Jay Price tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Tod Godsall had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joey Savage showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kenny Edgson , who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. Jay Price made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when Rodney Irvine sent off a good shot on target. When Stefan Thornton fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kelvedon AFC's protests and gave Stefan Thornton a yellow card for diving instead. Stefan Thornton hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. When Francis Coton came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the Wrea Green fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Francis Coton couldn't finish the play. The Wrea Green supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Wrea Green would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
