In the 16th minute, Neil Langdon got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 19 minutes, Martin Haywood mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Netherton and the Colo-Colo players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Netherton's Martin Haywood got a free kick in the 19th minute. When Vic Theobald came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Colo-Colo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vic Theobald couldn't finish the play. Cody Griffiths made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Neil Langdon sent off a good shot on target. Cody Griffiths made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vic Theobald in the 30th minute of play. Cody Griffiths was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Vic Theobald showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 32 minute of play. Maurice Stockley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robert Kellaway, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Netherton's Martin Haywood got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Martin Haywood took the ball and in the 42 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Maurice Stockley. Maurice Stockley dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Vic Theobald was the one to do the kick off. In the 56th minute Vic Theobald shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cody Griffiths saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vic Theobald received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Cody Griffiths tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cody Griffiths made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Walter Downing in the 60th minute of play. After having played for 62 minutes, Martin Haywood managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Netherton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Martin Haywood was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience was convinced that Neil Langdon's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cody Griffiths was relentless in the 64th minute of the game. 67 minutes into the match, Netherton's goal looked a bit too open when Neil Langdon came free, but Cody Griffiths reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Robert Kellaway fell near the penalty area in the 70th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Netherton's Robert Kellaway got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cody Griffiths showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Neil Langdon, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Cody Griffiths took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Neil Langdon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
