Reuben Lowndes made the kick off and thus started the match. Leroy McCormick took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 3rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Rodd Delamore. Shrewsbury AFC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Danny Waltham showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Andy Holt in the 7th minute of the match. A collision led to Shrewsbury AFC getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Brian Galway hit a great ball. After having played for 19 minutes, Stevie Nesbitt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Thamesmead's supporters crossed their fingers, but Stevie Nesbitt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Andy Holt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Shrewsbury AFC booed when Thamesmead was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jacob Housham didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alec Milburn got free with Danny Waltham in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 24 minutes, Ivor Garrett mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Shrewsbury AFC and the Thamesmead players grew even worse after the yellow card. The Thamesmead fans' excitement grew in the 26th match minute when Thamesmead's Stevie Nesbitt looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Reuben Lowndes struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Rodd Delamore didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Thamesmead. 33 minutes into the match, Alec Milburn notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Thamesmead's Danny Waltham. Danny Waltham was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Alec Milburn succeeded in the game's 40th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 2-1. After 45 played minutes Shrewsbury AFC got a freekick which was hit by Ivor Garrett. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Andy Holt to make the kick off. Rodd Delamore took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reuben Lowndes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 52 minutes of play Shrewsbury AFC's Ivor Garrett was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Ivor Garrett hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Fred Chiverton took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 54th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Rodd Delamore. Shrewsbury AFC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After having played for 58 minutes, Alec Milburn managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Shrewsbury AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alec Milburn was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rodd Delamore was a little too slow when Reuben Lowndes got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 62nd minute. The score was now 2-2. A hard shot 66 in the game by Stevie Nesbitt from a close distance when the talented Rodd Delamore managed to make a qualified save. Shrewsbury AFC's players were relieved. If Alec Milburn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Andy Holt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Shrewsbury AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Andy Holt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Danny Waltham breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Alec Milburn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Danny Waltham made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alec Milburn in the 77th minute of play. Danny Waltham stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alec Milburn's shot from short distance in the 80th minute. If Alec Milburn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Andy Holt kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. In the 96th minute, Reuben Lowndes made a precise shot to the right of Rodd Delamore. Shrewsbury AFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-3. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Thamesmead walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
