Brian Galway's late challenge caught a Dalton In Furness's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Brian Galway helped the player get up and apologised. After 20 played minutes Shrewsbury AFC got a freekick which was hit by Brian Galway. Ivor Garrett kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Graeme Healy struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Dalton In Furness's supporters crossed their fingers, but Graeme Healy was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Graeme Healy got free with Rodd Delamore in the 44th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Shrewsbury AFC's Rodd Delamore played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Harry Pugh in the 47th minute of play.

After a defensive mix-up in Dalton In Furness's zone, Alec Milburn stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rufus Whittaker came out of the goal and Alec Milburn tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
