A very good chance. 5 minutes into the game, BELFAST FC's Rudi Birken nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Doug Ashworth made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After 9 played minutes BELFAST FC got a freekick which was hit by Dennis Lawton. Benji Beerman recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 14th minute, Perry Hermon left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Lincoln United fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Dennis Lawton struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Doug Ashworth didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for BELFAST FC. Rudi Birken might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Doug Ashworth. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rudi Birken ran back to his position shaking his head. Rudi Birken fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Doug Ashworth having to interfere. 22 minutes into the match, Lincoln United's goal looked a bit too open when Dennis Lawton came free, but Doug Ashworth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 28th minute Dennis Lawton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Doug Ashworth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Lincoln United's zone, Rudi Birken stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Doug Ashworth came out of the goal and Rudi Birken tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. BELFAST FC's Peter Banks proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save BELFAST FC from getting a goal against them. When Wes Doughty came up free with the goalie in the 35th minute, the Lincoln United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wes Doughty couldn't finish the play. Dennis Lawton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Alan Postolan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Rudi Birken made a kick off. Perry Hermon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter Banks having to interfere. Dennis Lawton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Doug Ashworth having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Perry Hermon in the 61st minute of play forced BELFAST FC's goalkeeper Peter Banks to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Lincoln United defense, Rudi Birken kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Doug Ashworth. The Lincoln United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Doug Ashworth should have stopped the shot. Benji Beerman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Peter Banks read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. Peter Banks took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benji Beerman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Peter Banks made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benji Beerman in the 72nd minute of play. Lincoln United's defense didn't have a chance, in the 75th minute, when Dennis Lawton scored to the left of an out of position Doug Ashworth, making the score, 1-3.
