In the 8th minute, Ian Markham hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Louie Davis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Reg Hinchcliffe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 16 played minutes Mhurphys Fury F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Joey Burns. Reg Hinchcliffe didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Colin Best went, in the 19th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Reg Hinchcliffe stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Louie Davis's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. In the 24th match minute, Cambridge Athletic was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Frank Cole to maneuver through the defense. In the 34thth minute of the game Louie Davis who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Mhurphys Fury F.C.'s Reg Hinchcliffe was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Reg Hinchcliffe showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tommy Evans in the 36th minute of the match. Colin Best charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Colin Best the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 37 played minutes Cambridge Athletic got a freekick which was hit by Colin Best. After some careless play in the Mhurphys Fury F.C. defense, Louie Davis kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Reg Hinchcliffe. The Mhurphys Fury F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Reg Hinchcliffe should have stopped the shot. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The wind increased when Louie Davis made the kick off in the second half. If Louie Davis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Mhurphys Fury F.C. booed when Cambridge Athletic was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tommy Evans didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rupert Titmuss took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 59th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Charlie Corby. Cambridge Athletic's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After 61 minutes of play, Cambridge Athletic's Louie Davis made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Reg Hinchcliffe was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a little luck, Mhurphys Fury F.C.'s Reg Hinchcliffe got control of the ball when Will Hickson tried to sneak it across the goal line. 70 minutes into the match, Johnny Endean notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Cambridge Athletic's Charlie Corby. Charlie Corby was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Reg Hinchcliffe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Louie Davis in the 75th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joey Burns in the 77th minute of play forced Cambridge Athletic's goalkeeper Charlie Corby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Louie Davis came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Cambridge Athletic fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Louie Davis couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Ben Fordham managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cambridge Athletic's supporters rose to their feet, but Ben Fordham was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Reg Hinchcliffe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 85th minute Louie Davis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reg Hinchcliffe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Louie Davis was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 87th minute. Cambridge Athletic's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Louie Davis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Louie Davis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reg Hinchcliffe having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Louie Davis got free with Reg Hinchcliffe in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cambridge Athletic's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
