The audience thought a goal was coming when Rob Nicholson got free with Derek Rashleigh in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Derek Rashleigh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tod Whitford, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 94th minute, Calum Coleman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 96 minutes into the game, Andy Baird cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-9. Derek Rashleigh was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The Rotherham fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Newcastle-under-Lyme were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
