Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Workington's Carlton Inman started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Don Griffiths was a little too slow when Owen Whittaker got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 4th minute. The score was now 1-0. Geoff Rogers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Don Griffiths having to interfere. 8 minutes into the game, Lewisham's Carl Seaward nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Don Griffiths made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Marc Donaldson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pierce Porter in the 15th minute of play. Workington's Bradley Topham suffered a sore thigh after 16 minutes and couldn't finish the game. When Mike Blueman fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lewisham's protests and gave Mike Blueman a yellow card for diving instead. Workington's Joe Bridge was substituted for Bradley Topham. After a rather tough play, Lewisham's Mike Blueman got a free kick in the 18th minute. Joe Bridge, 18 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Owen Whittaker in the 20th minute of play forced Workington's goalkeeper Don Griffiths to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marc Donaldson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlton Inman in the 24th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pierce Porter in the 25th minute of play forced Lewisham's goalkeeper Marc Donaldson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Geoff Rogers could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Don Griffiths made a huge save. With a little luck, Workington's Don Griffiths got control of the ball when Geoff Rogers tried to sneak it across the goal line. Joe Bridge fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marc Donaldson having to interfere. Marc Donaldson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlton Inman, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Don Griffiths showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carl Seaward in the 33rd minute of the match. Don Griffiths took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Owen Whittaker, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lewisham's Marc Donaldson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joe Bridge in the 39th minute of play. 41 minutes into the match, Workington's goal looked a bit too open when Carl Seaward came free, but Don Griffiths reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 42 minutes of play, Workington's Carlton Inman made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marc Donaldson was left in no man's land by his defense there! The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Geoff Rogers to strike the kick off in the second half. After 57 minutes, Lance Kennedy mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Workington and the Lewisham players grew even worse after the yellow card. Lance Kennedy hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. In the 61st minute Carl Seaward shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Don Griffiths saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Don Griffiths showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Owen Whittaker in the 67th minute of the match. Don Griffiths showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Geoff Rogers, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Marc Donaldson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pierce Porter in the 76th minute of play. Lewisham's Marc Donaldson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joe Bridge in the 77th minute of play. In the 77th minute, Michael Harrison hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Don Griffiths didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Carl Seaward went, in the 82nd minute, to the upper right corner, 4-4 was the resulting score. Pierce Porter could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Marc Donaldson made a huge save. After 93 played minutes Workington got a freekick which was hit by Jim Haylock. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
