Steve Mayall was slow to take the kick. During this time Newcastle-under-Lyme's players had a chance to rest. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Andy Baird to make the kick off. Peacehaven's Spike Sharpe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joey Adams in the 52nd minute of play. Newcastle-under-Lyme's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
