Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Ian Moyle got the match started through his kick off. With a little luck, Marlow FC's Matthew Lister got control of the ball when Garth Woods tried to sneak it across the goal line. Leigh Hoopman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eddy Major, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. After 15 played minutes Ambleside got a freekick which was hit by Ian Moyle. After having played for 25 minutes, Eddy Major managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Marlow FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eddy Major was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Garth Woods came up free with the goalie in the 27th minute, the Ambleside fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Garth Woods couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Marlow FC getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Eddy Major hit a great ball. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind Marlow FC's goalkeeper Matthew Lister, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Leigh Hoopman didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marcus Savage went, in the 34th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. 40 minutes in the game Jeff Gill did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Ian Moyle. After some careless play in the Marlow FC defense, Garth Woods kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Matthew Lister. The Marlow FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Matthew Lister should have stopped the shot. If Ian Moyle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rodney Cunningham to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ian Moyle in the 53rd minute of play forced Marlow FC's goalkeeper Matthew Lister to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Ambleside's Leigh Hoopman got control of the ball when Eddy Major tried to sneak it across the goal line. 70 minutes in the game Norman Corbridge did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Garth Woods. A collision led to Ambleside getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Marc Moyse hit a great ball. In the 75th minute, Ian Moyle left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ambleside fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. Matthew Lister took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Garth Woods, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rodney Cunningham sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 89th minute Garth Woods shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthew Lister saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Ian Moyle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marlow FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
