Barley Hutton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 30 minutes into the game, Rathwire's Heremon McLiam nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Barley Hutton made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Barley Hutton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rooney McOliver, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Giles Gallagher during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Cahersherkin Utd's Giles Gallagher got a free kick in the 39th minute. Rathwire's Lee Martyn got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Tiomoid Gillmour made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Cahersherkin Utd booed when Rathwire was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Biddy Dalton didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cahersherkin Utd's Babe Morrison couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Rathwire. Heremon McLiam fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Barley Hutton having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 62 minutes, Barley Hutton successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Boyle McAlphie walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. When Lee Martyn came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the Rathwire fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lee Martyn couldn't finish the play. In the 74th minute of the match, Heremon McLiam got a very nice opportunity to score, but Barley Hutton was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Cahersherkin Utd's Tiomoid Gillmour got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Tiomoid Gillmour came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Cahersherkin Utd fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tiomoid Gillmour couldn't finish the play. Lee Martyn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Barley Hutton having to interfere. In the 88th match minute, Cahersherkin Utd was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Babe Morrison to maneuver through the defense. Barley Hutton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lee Martyn in the 91st minute of play. Tiomoid Gillmour sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 98th minute, Cahersherkin Utd's Samueil Holt seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Samueil Holt the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Cahersherkin Utd protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Samueil Holt had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Cahersherkin Utd fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 97th minute. Penalty! Boyle McAlphie shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. The Cahersherkin Utd supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Rathwire's performance. The match ended with a win for Rathwire.
