The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Harry Todd showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Declan Ghee in the 7th minute of the match. Washington's Harry Todd played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pierce Martyn in the 15th minute of play. Harry Todd stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Declan Ghee 's shot from short distance in the 16th minute. In the 19th minute Declan Ghee shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Harry Todd saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Pierce Martyn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ardfinnan FC's Pierce Martyn got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Ardfinnan FC's Philib O'Brien got a free kick in the 40th minute. It was beautiful to see Washington's Glenn Delaney in action when he in the 42nd minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! After a rather tough play, Ardfinnan FC's Bevin O'Neill got a free kick in the 45th minute. If Brazil Dempsey had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

65 minutes into the match, Washington's Brazil Dempsey sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Paul Dempsey narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Pierce Martyn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Pierce Martyn received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Harry Todd tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paul Dempsey took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Brazil Dempsey, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Loughlin Silke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When the match had gone on for 93 minutes, Loughlin Silke put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Paul Dempsey.
