Spectators: 6769 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1769, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Lochlainn John kicked off to start the match. After 2 played minutes Ballyteige Utd got a freekick which was hit by Séamus O'Keefe. Troy McPhilip made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aaden Ghee in the 3rd minute of play. Bairthmead Ghee received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Donncha Murphy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Robert Dempsey managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ballyteige Utd's supporters rose to their feet, but Robert Dempsey was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Donncha Murphy breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aaden Ghee in the 12th minute of play forced Ballyteige Utd's goalkeeper Troy McPhilip to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Robert Dempsey fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donncha Murphy having to interfere. In the 24th minute, Rollan Harkin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Donncha Murphy made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Bairthmead Ghee sent off a good shot on target. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aaden Ghee in the 30th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Troy McPhilip prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 35 minutes into the match, Ballyteige Utd's goal looked a bit too open when Lochlainn John came free, but Troy McPhilip reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aaden Ghee struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Troy McPhilip didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gortnagappul AFC. The supporters of Gortnagappul AFC booed when Ballyteige Utd was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Séamus O'Keefe didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 40th minute Lochlainn John shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Troy McPhilip saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 44th minute, Séamus O'Keefe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half Gortnagappul AFC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Robert Dempsey to strike the kick off in the second half. Lochlainn John recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 54 minutes into the match, Ballyteige Utd's Robert Dempsey sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Donncha Murphy narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Ballyteige Utd's zone, Aaden Ghee stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Troy McPhilip came out of the goal and Aaden Ghee tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Robert Dempsey received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Donncha Murphy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 74th minute, Robert Dempsey got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Aaden Ghee got free with Troy McPhilip in the 77th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
