When Blamhac Quinnless fell near the penalty area in the 2nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Portlaw AFC's protests and gave Blamhac Quinnless a yellow card for diving instead. In the 2nd minute, Blamhac Quinnless hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rollin Lester hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gerard Dillon in the 5th minute of play forced Ferrybank Utd's goalkeeper Gilbert McGlenn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Brion McPhil during the 12th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 12th minute, Brion McPhil hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Harold McIan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Portlaw AFC's Brendon McBjarton proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save Portlaw AFC from getting a goal against them. If Blamhac Quinnless had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Roland Gough kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Ferrybank Utd's Harrington Kirby got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Harrington Kirby fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon McBjarton having to interfere. Brendon McBjarton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Brazil Dunne, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Brazil Dunne made the kick off in the second half. If Harold McIan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 53 minutes into the match, Portlaw AFC's Blamhac Quinnless sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gilbert McGlenn narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Harrington Kirby fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon McBjarton having to interfere. After 58 played minutes, Ferrybank Utd's Darby Callaghan shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Brendon McBjarton came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Ferrybank Utd reached it. Brion McPhil hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. In the 60th minute of the match Rollin Lester shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Brendon McBjarton showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. If Harold McIan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Brion McPhil hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. The supporters of Ferrybank Utd booed when Portlaw AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ailín McLian didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Harrington Kirby in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Brendon McBjarton prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Ferrybank Utd's zone, Harold McIan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gilbert McGlenn came out of the goal and Harold McIan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Harold McIan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gilbert McGlenn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bel Lester in the 84th minute of play. 93 minutes into the game, Ferrybank Utd's Brazil Dunne nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Brendon McBjarton made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. If Brazil Dunne had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. For all the effort they put into the match, the Portlaw AFC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Ferrybank Utd.
