The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 6 minutes into the game, one of Derrycoosh AFC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee gave Portsalon a penalty, 8 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Brian Ryan, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Derrycoosh AFC's Rowley McWillie. 0-1. Rowley McWillie stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Brian Ryan's shot from short distance in the 11th minute. After 11 minutes, Brian Ryan made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. Derrycoosh AFC's Rowley McWillie tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Brian Ryan struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Rowley McWillie didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Portsalon. In the 15th minute, Bragan John got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Brian Ryan managed to get in a good position for a shot. Portsalon's supporters rose to their feet, but Brian Ryan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rowley McWillie breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Portsalon's Roy Branson got a free kick in the 21st minute. 23 minutes into the match, Derrycoosh AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Brian Ryan came free, but Rowley McWillie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rowley McWillie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Brian Ryan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 33rd minute, Brian Ryan left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Portsalon fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. If Brian Ryan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.

Portsalon's Brian Ryan got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Brian Ryan might have been able to make a better finish in the 74th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rowley McWillie. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Brian Ryan ran back to his position shaking his head. A collision led to Portsalon getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Gearoid Gollogley hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Derrycoosh AFC's Rigan McOliver got a free kick in the 86th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Brian Ryan managed to get in a good position for a shot. Portsalon's supporters rose to their feet, but Brian Ryan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rowley McWillie breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
