The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Donald Hughes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Shey McMichel's shot from short distance in the 3rd minute. 7 minutes into the match, Galbertstown Utd's goalkeeper Donald Hughes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Breadan Lavine. Bressal Robinson kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. Breadan Lavine might have been able to make a better finish in the 8th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Donald Hughes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Breadan Lavine ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience was convinced that Shey McMichel's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Donald Hughes was relentless in the 11th minute of the game. Nolyn Caffrey hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. Nolyn Caffrey charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nolyn Caffrey the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Loughshinny AFC booed when Galbertstown Utd was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nolyn Caffrey didn't get a good kick on the ball. Breadan Lavine fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donald Hughes having to interfere. When the match clock showed 24 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Breadan Lavine sped through Galbertstown Utd's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Donald Hughes. Shey McMichel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donald Hughes having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Breadan Lavine managed to get in a good position for a shot. Loughshinny AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Breadan Lavine was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Donald Hughes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 48 minutes into the match, Galbertstown Utd's goal looked a bit too open when Shey McMichel came free, but Donald Hughes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Baird Costello to make the kick off. Donald Hughes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Shey McMichel in the 78th minute of the match. Donald Hughes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shey McMichel, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. After 80 played minutes Galbertstown Utd got a freekick which was hit by Bressal Robinson. After some careless play in the Galbertstown Utd defense, Breadan Lavine kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Donald Hughes. The Galbertstown Utd fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Donald Hughes should have stopped the shot. 86 minutes into the match, Galbertstown Utd's goal looked a bit too open when Breadan Lavine came free, but Donald Hughes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Donald Hughes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Shey McMichel in the 95th minute of play. Loughshinny AFC's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
