The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Edwin McAlphie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Brian Palmer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Blanaid McBrand fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brian Palmer having to interfere. Alfred McMichel's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Daron McPhil firmly grabbed it by the left post. Daron McPhil acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 18th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Bailey Keegan. In the 19th minute, Alfred McMichel made a precise shot to the right of Daron McPhil. Tallaght's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Brian Palmer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donncha Myler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rinmore AFC's Brian Palmer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edwin McAlphie in the 26th minute of play. In the 28th match minute, Tallaght was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Donncha Myler to maneuver through the defense. Daron McPhil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hugh Deans, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edwin McAlphie in the 32nd minute of play forced Rinmore AFC's goalkeeper Brian Palmer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reagan Ryan kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. A collision led to Rinmore AFC getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Gilbert Ramsey hit a great ball. Tallaght's Nollaig Doherty couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 35th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Rinmore AFC. Blanaid McBrand's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brian Palmer read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. In the 38th minute Blanaid McBrand shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brian Palmer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edwin McAlphie in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Brian Palmer saved Rinmore AFC from getting behind. When Tallaght's Blanaid McBrand in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Rinmore AFC's goalie prevented a goal. After 44 minutes of play, Tallaght's Edwin McAlphie made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Brian Palmer was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Rinmore AFC booed when Tallaght was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donncha Myler didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hugh Deans made a kick off. 56 minutes into the match, Tallaght's goal looked a bit too open when Hugh Deans came free, but Daron McPhil reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dennis Ramsey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Donncha Myler fell near the penalty area in the 65th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tallaght's protests and gave Donncha Myler a yellow card for diving instead. In the 65th minute, Donncha Myler hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Rinmore AFC's zone, Edwin McAlphie stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Brian Palmer came out of the goal and Edwin McAlphie tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Daron McPhil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hugh Deans, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Rinmore AFC's zone, Blanaid McBrand stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Brian Palmer came out of the goal and Blanaid McBrand tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 77th of the match, Edwin McAlphie tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but Brian Palmer got in the way and made a wonderful save. When the match had gone on for 80 minutes, Edwin McAlphie put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Brian Palmer. Rinmore AFC's Brian Palmer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edwin McAlphie in the 84th minute of play. Daron McPhil stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hugh Deans's shot from short distance in the 93rd minute.
